Moving a four-bedroom house in Saint-Laurent costs $1,700 to $2,700 with an established mover between November and May, and $2,800 to $4,500 on July 1. A 4½ in a rental building runs $850 to $1,200 off-peak. Saint-Laurent has both kinds of move, and each one goes wrong in its own way.
Below: 2026 prices, the borough’s truck permit with its 5-business-day lead time, a bulky item pickup that takes sofas and mattresses, the écocentre that recycles mattresses, and how to keep a quote honest.
The quick answer on Saint-Laurent moving costs
| Home size | Off-peak (Nov to May) | June | July 1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio / 1BR (3½) | $540 to $700 | $700 to $900 | $1,000 to $1,750 |
| 2BR (4½) | $850 to $1,200 | $1,250 to $1,600 | $1,500 to $2,200 |
| 3BR (5½) | $1,100 to $1,700 | $1,600 to $2,200 | $1,800 to $2,800 |
| 4BR+ / house | $1,700 to $2,700 | $2,400 to $3,300 | $2,800 to $4,500 |
Those totals are typical 2026 ranges from established Montreal movers: $135 to $140 per hour for two movers and a truck off-peak, $175 to $200 in June and $250 to $350 on July 1, a 3 to 4 hour minimum, plus one hour of travel. A third mover adds about $30 per hour off-peak and $50 in June. A full house usually needs a bigger crew and 7 to 10 hours. All rates are before tax.

What is specific to moving in Saint-Laurent
Houses, townhouses and condos
The City’s profile describes Nouveau Saint-Laurent as a mix running from condos to large single-family homes and townhouses, Village Montpellier as large condo buildings, and Norvick as 248 single-family houses built from 1942 (borough profile). Each one prices differently. A house move is a full day where the garage and basement decide the bill, so count them in when you describe the job. A condo move depends on the elevator: ask management how far ahead to book it and whether they want the mover’s certificate of insurance.
Driveways help, but check the truck
A driveway often saves you a permit, but a 26-foot truck does not fit every one. Tell the mover the driveway length and whether there is a slope or a low branch before quoting.
A borough that is mostly industry
The same profile says 70% of the territory is devoted to industrial and commercial activities, and that four REM stations opened in the borough in 2025. If you are moving a home office or a small business space, mention it: business moves are often quoted differently from residential ones.
Parking a moving truck: permit, signs and cost
The City’s rules for Saint-Laurent, from the montreal.ca page on parking a moving truck, consulted October 14, 2026:
- No permit needed if you use free, legal spaces without preventing others from parking, you do not block the sidewalk or a bike path, and your street has no meters. You can still ask neighbours to leave the space free.
- Permit required on a street with meters, when a bike path is obstructed, or when the move may obstruct the street or sidewalk.
- Signs: only official signs rented from a specialized company, installed by you 12 to 14 hours before the move. You then notify the Agence de mobilité durable through its online sign form.
- Meters: the borough has them hooded once the permit is issued, with separate invoices for the installation and the lost parking revenue.
- Lead time: the permit arrives within 5 business days. Apply online with a montreal.ca account at least a week ahead.
- Cost: the City sends you to the borough’s tariff for temporary occupation of public property. In Saint-Laurent that starts with a $60 permit issuance fee, plus daily occupancy and obstruction charges; the online application shows an estimate before you submit (borough tariff).
Ask the mover whether they handle the permit and the signs, and at what price. Put it in the written quote.
Bulky items and the Saint-Laurent écocentre
Saint-Laurent is the City’s stated exception on upholstered furniture, and its weight limit is higher too (borough bulky item rules):
- 5 m³ (176 ft³) maximum per address, and up to 100 kg (220 lb) per item or container.
- Sofas, mattresses and armchairs are accepted, in a pile separate from the rest. Another truck picks them up.
- No plastic bags as containers. Remove washer and dryer doors and any nails or sharp metal.
- Pickup is once a month by sector (Saint-Laurent collections guide). Check Info-Collectes for your date, and plan the clear-out around it. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners do not go to the curb.
Missed the monthly date? The Saint-Laurent écocentre is at 3535 rue Sartelon. From October 15 to April 14 it opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; from April 15 to October 14, Tuesday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Under the City’s écocentre rules, it is the only one that recycles mattresses and box springs, one of two that recycle styrofoam, and one of two with unlimited visits. Bring ID plus a proof of address. Residents drop up to 12 m³ of debris and upholstered items free per year, then $31 per extra m³. A rental cube van must be under 8.3 m (27 ft).
July 1 in Saint-Laurent
The Quebec government states that the majority of residential leases in Quebec end on June 30, which produces a wave of moves every July 1 (Québec.ca, June 2026, in French). If you rent in Saint-Laurent, that is your calendar too, at $250 to $350 an hour. Book in the spring and reserve the elevator as soon as you have the mover’s time slot.
If you own, you are not tied to June 30. Pick a mid-month weekday between November and May and a four-bedroom house costs $1,700 to $2,700 instead of $2,800 to $4,500. Renters who need to leave early should read our guide to lease transfers (cession de bail) in Quebec.
How to get a fair rate in Saint-Laurent
- Move mid-month, mid-week, between November and May, especially for a house.
- Describe the job fully: rooms, garage, basement, shed, driveway or street, elevator or stairs.
- Four numbers before tax: hourly rate, crew size, travel charge, minimum hours. If a quote hides one, it is not a quote.
- Ask who handles the permit, given the 5-business-day delay.
- Check the mover’s file with the Commission des transports du Québec. Its online service shows a carrier’s entry in the heavy vehicle owners and operators register, including its safety rating (CTQ register).
Red flags: a flat price for a house without a single question about the garage or basement, a cash deposit, no CTQ registration, a July 1 price far below everyone else’s. See how we vet movers for what we check, and use the 30-day Montreal moving checklist to time the permit and the monthly bulky pickup.
