Quebec has one online service, the Service québécois de changement d’adresse, that sends your new address to seven provincial bodies in a single session. It does not reach Hydro-Québec, Canada Post, your bank, your insurer or the federal government, so a full change of address is the government form plus a short list of separate notices. The only fixed deadline the province states for most people is 30 days for the SAAQ.

What does the Quebec change of address service update?

The Service québécois de changement d’adresse on Québec.ca updates these seven organizations at once:

  • SAAQ: your driver’s licence and vehicle registration
  • RAMQ: your health insurance card file
  • Revenu Québec: your tax file and the tax credits it pays
  • Retraite Québec: the Quebec Pension Plan and family allowance
  • Élections Québec: the permanent list of electors
  • CNESST: work accident and safe maternity files
  • The Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale: social assistance and apprentice cards

Québec.ca recommends this service whenever it is available. You can also notify each body on its own, which only makes sense if you need to reach just one of them.

What does it not cover?

Everything outside those seven needs its own notice:

  • Hydro-Québec, which has to be handled before you move so the power is on at the new place
  • Canada Post mail forwarding, which catches mail that still goes to the old address
  • Federal programs and services. Québec.ca itself suggests giving your new address to Canada Post and to the Government of Canada separately
  • Aide financière aux études, if you receive student aid. It asks to be told within 30 days of your moving date
  • Épargne Placements Québec, which has its own online transactions service
  • The administrator of any supplemental pension plan you belong to. The name is usually on your pay slip
  • Your bank, insurer, employer, phone company and internet provider, each of which keeps its own file

What deadlines apply?

The SAAQ requires your new address within 30 days of your moving date, and it mails a sticker for the back of your licence. Aide financière aux études asks for the same 30 days. For Revenu Québec, the effective date of the change must be today or later, never in the past, so submit it on or after the day you move. Your RAMQ card does not display an address, so nothing about the card itself changes.

What do you need for the Revenu Québec part?

Revenu Québec asks you to confirm who you are before it changes your file. Have these ready:

  • Your social insurance number
  • Some personal information, such as your date of birth
  • A notice of assessment number from a notice issued in the last five years for one of your two most recent tax years

Most changes are made immediately. Some payment slips and forms are prepared in advance, so a document can still arrive at your old address, which is why mail forwarding is worth setting up. Give your own new address, not your tax preparer’s. If you already updated Revenu Québec through My Account, leave the Revenu Québec box unchecked in the government service.

In what order should you do it?

  1. Before the move: arrange Hydro-Québec and your internet so both are working on day one.
  2. Moving day or just after: submit the Quebec government service with your move-in date.
  3. First week: start Canada Post forwarding, then tell your bank, insurer and employer.
  4. Within 30 days: confirm the SAAQ sticker is on its way and tell Aide financière aux études if it applies to you.

Quick answers

Is there one place to change my address for all of Quebec?

For provincial bodies, yes. The Service québécois de changement d’adresse updates seven of them in one session. It does not include Hydro-Québec, Canada Post, the federal government or private companies, which each need a separate notice.

Which Quebec organizations does the service update?

The SAAQ, RAMQ, Revenu Québec, Retraite Québec, Élections Québec, the CNESST and the Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale.

Do I have to update the federal government too?

Yes, separately. The Quebec service only reaches provincial bodies, and Québec.ca itself points you to Canada Post and to the Government of Canada for the rest.

How long do I have to update my address in Quebec?

The province states a 30-day limit for the SAAQ, counted from your moving date, and the same 30 days for Aide financière aux études. Revenu Québec does not accept a date in the past. For everything else, do it in your first week so mail does not pile up at the old address.
